Our first look at the internationally acclaimed Skoda Yeti.

Premium automobile manufacturer SkodaAuto India Monday launched its first sports utility vehicle (SUV) Yeti in the country, priced at Rs.15.40 lakh-Rs.16.62 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi).
'The Yeti will create a new SUV segment between the existing premium and low cost offers. And with an unrivalled price point, it gives us the confidence that Yeti would attract a new host of customers,' said Thomas Kuehl, director, sales and marketing SkodaAuto India.
The SUV which comes in two variants, Ambiente and Elegance, is powered by a 2 litre TDI CR (common rail diesel) engine, with a maximum power of 140 bhp at 4200 rpm.
Yeti has a six-speed manual transmission and high-pressure direct injection technology system with a mileage of 17.67 km per litre. It has leather interiors with colour tones of black and beige.
Kuehl said Yeti will give good competition to the C plus segment of sedans and other SUVs as the Skoda brand is a compact car which embodies comfort of a sedan and off-roading capability of a SUV.
The company has reported a booking of about a 1,000 units for its new offering which will be brought in the country as CKD (completely knocked-down) units assembled at its Aurangabad plant.
The Czech company's Indian subsidiary started operations in November 2001, and currently offers three models under its brands of Skoda Superb, Skoda Laura and the hatchback Skoda Fabia.

Ssangyong, Mahindra and Mahindra sign deal

Seoul: Indian carmaker Mahindra and Mahindra on Tuesday signed a "definitive agreement" with receivers of Ssangyong Motor to take over the troubled South Korean auto maker, the two sides said.

The total cost of acquisition is 463 million dollars, comprising 378 million dollars in new stock and 85 million dollars in corporate bonds, Mahindra and Mahindra and Ssangyong Motor said in a press statement.
"The coming together of Mahindra and Ssangyong will result in a competitive global UV (utility vehicle) player," said Pawan Goenka, head of Mahindra's automotive section.

He said both sides would gain from the tie-up, with Mahindra bringing competence in sourcing and marketing as well as its financial capability and Ssangyong providing technological advantages.
Mahindra is committed to "leverage the combined synergies" by investing in a new Ssangyong product portfolio to gain momentum in global markets, said Goenka.

"There is also an opportunity to introduce a premium portfolio of SUVs in the Indian market, providing a new growth avenue for Ssangyong and further strengthen our dominant position in the UV" area, he added.
Ssangyong has been undergoing a corporate rehabilitation process since February 2009.

The acquisition will offer financial stability to Ssangyong and the two companies will work to further strengthen Ssangyong's product portfolio across the globe, the statement said.

Birthday wishes to Naga Chaitanya

Naga Chaitanya celebrates his second birthday as actor today (November 23). Post the success of Ye Maaya Chesave, Naga Chaitanya is having blast of time now. On the other hand, his current film in the direction of Sukumar is in the last leg of shooting. Except for the balance of three songs, the movie has completed its shooting part. Bunny Vasu is producing it on Geeta Arts banner.

The film’s music is expected to hit the market next month. There is stiff competition among audio companies to buy the film’s music rights as Sukumar and Devi Sri Prasad is a hot combination. All three movies came in their combination - Arya, Jagadam and Arya 2 - are musical hits.
